Jack at the La Honda Faire 2011
by craig eddy
The La Honda Post Office has announced a new program aimed at those postal patrons who feel they have no venue to air complaints they might have. In order to address this issue there will be a community meeting on Friday night October 7th at 8pm at Cafe Cuesta. Postal employee Jack Mullins will be on hand to accept your complaints and suggestions. The only thing is, he will only listen if you stick around for both sets of his new band's debut performance and put something in the tip jar. But seriously folks, who is this guy Jack Mullins that fills our mail boxes with such a variety of wonderful stuff? Jack came to La Honda ten years ago. He moved out from New York. He was staying with a friend in Montara and found his way to an open mic at Apple Jack's one night. He ended up moving to La Honda because of the promising music scene here. He played with the Lisa Kelly Band for a bit, and started his first California band. These days Jack is putting the finishing touches on his new project Jack and the Hitchhikers. Jack's influences include Elvis, Neil Young, Warren Zevon. Jack has done a lot of audio work in the video world as well as recording bands. His latest studio project was syncing up audio to recently discovered Elvis movie footage. Jack was playing the Mountain House one night when in walked his idol Neil Young. He'll tell you there is nothing like that happening to make you jump right into the next set. When asked what venue is his all time favorite he tells of playing in Virginia City at the Red Dog Saloon where Quicksilver, Big Brother, and the Airplane all played back in the day. When you come to see Jack's show on Oct 7th make sure to get a copy of his CD. I still listen to it all the time. Jack solo or Jack with the Hitchhikers it always is a show featuring a mix of well chosen covers and a lot of his own great songs. See you at the show and if you slip a twenty in the tip jar you just might find yourself getting less junk mail, or not. There is one more event that Jack usually can be found at and that would be the annual Jamfest held at Playbowl each year. This years event will be Saturday October 8th. Jamfest features tons of local musicians getting together to hang out and jam for a few hours. Bring your own everything at meet us around 1pm at Playbowl
