In a world of numerous natural disasters, economic turmoil, violence etc etc, it is so nice to be in our hidden community where we can get away from being bombarded every second. What I love most about our area is the vast number of artists and musicians living in our area. Not all artists and musicians get out and share their art but we have many that do. I have been doing the Face of Local Music for two years and still haven't run out of potential articles. I would like to take this months edition to say thanks to all those musicians that play the area for the love of it as no one gets rich playing music in the La Honda area. The musicians have always been willing to donate their time and effort to support the local school as well as many other worthy causes. Thank you, thank you, and thank you. For those of you that haven't been to the local venues and been exposed to our local talent I would say, check it out. We have music at Applejack's, Cafe Cuesta, Alice's, San Gregorio General Store and the Pescadero store. Thanks to Charlie Catania who has turned the cafe patio into a showplace for bands to play. Also thanks to Paula Dennis for keeping the La Honda Fair going year after year. If you are interested in knowing when the local bands are playing in the area you can always check this newspaper for the calendar or go to Lahonda.com for the schedule. The Holiday craft fair at the firehouse is coming up and you can look for local CD's there or some are available at the Market and at the San Gregorio General store. Suggestions for fairly new CD projects are Lisa Kelly (folky rock), Tod Novak (bluegrassy and country with Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys), Bundy Browne (smooth, silky Blues), and soon to be released Pathetic Honey's first CD (Rock n Roll). All great projects and sized to drop right into a Christmas stocking. Thanks most of all to the people of the area that do get out and support the local music scene. Without them we might as well stay home and play in the living room. Don't forget the End of the World Party at AppleJacks on the 21st. Not sure why but the day after the end of the World Saxyman will be playing there. Happy holidays and an exceptional New Year to all.
