Kevin at the 2012 La Honda Fair

Kevin Kelsey currently of the Kings Mountain area didn't find his way to our coastal mountain area because of the music here, but it was a pleasant surprise to move here and find so much art and music. He grew up a child of the peninsula. Dave sold a business, got a divorce and moved up to King's Mountain. He took piano lessons for three years before getting his first electric bass at thirteen. First song? Smoke on the Water. Probably more musicians started with that song than any other. He was into The Who, Styx, The Fix, The Cars and the Grateful Dead. During high school Kevin was mostly involved in jazz vocal ensembles. He did some playing in church also. Kevin was in a band or two during school but never really new that many other players. He met current band mate Dave Barrow (see lahonda.com) through mutual Dead Head friends. Their first band together The Baked Clams was pretty bad but, "we were plenty loud". Eventually Kevin with friends Dave Barrow and Dan Newitt formed current band Pathetic Honey. PH has been playing the area for several years now and are getting quite a following. Kevin loves playing Applejack's and says Pathetic Honey and AJ's are a perfect match. They just finished up the End of the World party at AJ's and people are still talking about it. I give them the credit for the incredible survival rate at the end of the world. Kevin gives his friend Dan Newitt much credit for pushing him musically and helping him grow. Kevin started going to the Strawverry Music Festival and got hooked on the acoustic jamming scene which got him to take up acoustic upright bass. Pathetic Honey is doing the finishing touches on their first recording project and both Dan and Kevin along with local favorite Stacey Erdman are just starting to record as new local band Cryin' Shame. You can catch both bands at the local venues as well as shows around the Bay Area. Look for Pathetics CD release sometime during the spring. One thing for sure is if Kevin is on stage he will have a smile on his face and most likely be barefooted.
