Every now and then I like to write a bit about organizations in the La Honda area that help promote local music. As it is time for the annual Cuesta La Honda July 4th Picnic I would like to thank the Cuesta board for their putting together the July 4th event at Playbowl as well as the Jamfest at Playbowl in October. Once again local events so full of good vibes and community involvement that local musicians are happy to be involved for the cause even though no one gets paid to play. If you haven't been to the July 4th event yet, give it a try! Each year starting around noon there is music, food and traditional July 4th type games for everyone. Want to strut around town for a few weeks? Win the egg toss or water balloon toss. You will be a superstar for at least as long as the picnic lasts. Games usually get going around 2pm. Once the games end the music will start up again and play until the musicians get tired of playing. We will probably end around 6ish. The picnic is a pot luck with the BBQ meats supplied. Bring a side dish, salad, or dessert to put out. I am in negotiations to bring in special musical guests but may not know myself who the special guests will be until the day of. Bring your instrument and you just might get elected the 'special guest'. The kids will certainly have a blast with the sack races, tug of war, and balloon stomp. Seems the adults sometimes get a little more amped up than the kids. The picnic only works because of all the volunteers so be sure to thank them for all their hard work setting up and preparing food and tearing it all down again. Come on down on the 4th and enjoy yet another reason small town is so fun. It all ends early enough to head out and catch you favorite fireworks shows. See ya at the Playbowl!!
