Cryin' Shame @ The Store
by craig eddy
As the old year slips away and the new one gets started, I plan to incorporate reviews of local music events from time to time. On Dec 29th Cryin' Shame played a show at the San Gregorio General Store. Cryin' Shame is one of the newer local bands and they have all the ingredients for success. A mix of many styles along with great vocal harmonies and excellent guitar work. The Store has always been a great destination for a casual drive to the coast as well as a place to catch excellent weekend music. For those that haven't checked it out it is a smallish venue that lends itself perfectly to bands like Cryin' Shame. Sunday's show was a pleasant volume with an attentive appreciative audience of thirty or so. This show featured a lot of country music with guest fiddler Marisa Martinez-Lusinchi. It weas a beautiful touch adding in the fiddle. Cryin' Shame brings musicianship and a bunch of humour to their shows. It was a beautiful warm day for a relaxing drive. I always love stopping in at the Store to catch my friend’s bands playing there. The crowds are usually a mix of locals and tourists just passing through. You can get a great cup of coffee unless you need something a bit stronger in which case the bartender can put together a great Bloody Mary. If you want to learn more you can look up Kevin Kelsey, Stacey Erdman, Dan Newitt, and the San Gregorio General Store in the archives at La Honda.com. With two bands both Saturday and Sunday you can usually be assured of a great time at one of our local treasures. Shows are 11am and 2pm. I expect to hear a lot more about Cryin’ Shame in 2014. Great show guys and keep it up!!!!
