Ciosi & Ken at Alice's
by craig eddy
Once in a while a totally new music act comes through the area and on September 30th at Alice’s we were treated to a very special show. Frederico Franciosi visiting from Italy let us know that acoustic music is alive and well in Italy. Ciosi as he is known covered a wide variety of styles but even when he played traditional American tunes he made each song his own. Ciosi played several bluegrass tunes at blazing speed as well as several blues numbers and many of his own tunes ala Michael Hedges. Not only is he a fantastic guitarist he has a slightly rough edge to his voice (kinda like Steve Earles voice) and he knows how to engage his audience and makes everyone feel like they are part of the performance. He could have just blazed away wowing everyone but he made a point of doing some traditional American tunes that we could all sing along on. Ciosi was joined by Ken Leiboff on harmonica on a few tunes and as he is also a virtuoso it was all in all a stellar evening of great music. A week later the two of them came by my studio a spent a few hours jamming with some of the areas best musicians. I was thrilled to be able to play with people of that caliber. Ciosi has a brand new CD out and left me a dozen in case anyone is interested. Contact me and I can get you a copy. He only wants 10.00 per CD and I can assure you your money’s worth.
